Are directory submissions still worth it for SaaS growth in 2026?

For early-stage SaaS, yes. The Reddit consensus across r/SaaS and r/SEO matches what we see: directory listings give you foundational backlinks that speed up Google indexing, kickstart your Domain Rating from zero, and put you in front of audiences actively searching for tools like yours. They are not a growth-stage tactic. They are how you stop being invisible.

Will Google penalize my site for these listings?

Not for the directories we submit to. Google penalizes link-farms and PBNs (sites that exist only for backlinks). The directories on our list are real platforms with real audiences: Crunchbase, ProductHunt, G2, DEV.to, StackShare, Indie Hackers, and similar. These are the same listings Google itself shows in product-comparison searches.

Most submission services blast 100 to 500 directories. Why only 30?

Because the other 100+ are dead, deindexed, or sites nobody visits. A founder who submitted to 300+ directories shared the breakdown publicly on Reddit: roughly 30 of them brought any real value. We skip the noise. Quality over a vanity number is the whole pitch. The Standard tier covers 60 and Premium covers 90 directories from our wider curated list.

Will the directory list grow over time? Do I pay again for new directories?

The list grows continuously. We vet new directories and add them when they pass our criteria (DR threshold, real traffic, alive moderation, indexed by Google). Premium customers are auto-added to every new directory at no extra cost, for life. You decide: opt-in (we just submit you to every new addition and email you the report) or opt-out (you pick which ones from a monthly digest). One payment, growing reach. Standard and Starter customers get the list-snapshot at purchase time but can upgrade later for the lifetime add-on.

Are these dofollow backlinks?

Roughly half are dofollow (DEV.to, AlternativeTo, BetaList, StackShare, Indie Hackers, and others). The rest are nofollow but still drive direct traffic and brand discovery. Each directory in our public list shows the link type so you know exactly what you get before you buy.

Manual or automated submissions?

Hybrid. We use automation to handle the repetitive form-filling and tracking, but a human reviews every listing and writes niche-tailored copy per directory. That avoids the auto-rejection that fully-automated tools (ListingBott, AISubmits, etc.) get on quality directories like ProductHunt, G2, or AlternativeTo, where moderators reject obvious spam.

How long until I see results?

Most directories index your listing within 24 to 72 hours. Domain Rating impact typically shows after 3 to 4 weeks (Ahrefs needs time to re-crawl new backlinks). We send a progress report at week 1, week 4, and week 12 with measured DR delta plus the traffic each directory delivered.

I am at DR 0. Will this even work for me?

Especially if you are at DR 0. Reddit threads from founders documenting their journey (DR 0 to DR 6 in 3 weeks, 1000+ visitors from directory listings) consistently confirm that directory submissions are the highest-leverage early-stage tactic. The lower your starting DR, the larger the relative jump.
